Project Description

For my project, I was thinking about starting a new blog that would be exclusively tutorials and explanations about the kinds of issues that interest me. To start, I would mainly be concentrating on color correcting issues and theory. The actual look of the blog will be a mix of screen shots, video, and text.

I don't know what I am going to call this project, I feel like it should have some uncreative or straight forward title like “Techniques of Digital Photography”.

An important part of the assignment will be the actual prints that I make to bring in for critique. In addition to the color correcting, I will also be concentrating on how to get great prints from of printers at school, the smaller one in particular.

I know the first issue I will have is learning to make a video tutorial. I know who to ask about that though so it shouldn't be a problem. Another is that the some of these issues are so big that I may have a hard time trying to fit all of these into the time allowed for the assignment. I guess thats the challenge. I think a month from now I could have a very interesting blog and work to show. My goal would be to have a minimum of ten images that have both technical and aesthetic appeal.

I think this is kinda interesting because it seems in art the techniques of art making has fallen by the wayside. It is either you are a techy-geek that does boring commercial work for uncreative people or a fine artist who is a jack of all trade and master of none. I think that I will try and create some images that hold within my normal creative subjects while having a strong emphasis on the techniques used to get them.

I think the grading criteria should be based on how useful and thorough the information presented is.

Goals list:

Technical Blog

Capture

Post Processing

Color Correction

Printing Consistency

Steve Rodin was the visiting artist today.

I think its interesting going to see some of these artists, because it really reminds me of going to see someone like your grandma or any older person who has more experience that me.

There are kinds of questions that a young person might be asking themselves that an older person has already asked and found some sort of way to cope with.

Converting to CMYK

So I have been reading that its better to color correct in CMYK. I don't know why at the moment, but I should have the answer by the end of the week. So I just calibrated my monitor and that was cool even though I really didn't see any difference after doing it, but now I'm getting an error message when I try and convert to CMYK. Well, its not really and error but it says "you are about to convert to CMYK using so and so's color profile and this might not be what I intend". So yeah I don't really know what that means.

Death to the Tinman

A friend recommended this video to me. I really like the way they used simple props and lighting to make the film. I also think the casual acting style adds to the low tech look of the film.
